About Us

JAKs: stands for Joe, Amber and Kid S......

Joe Purvis

Most of my family are in the transport business.  My uncle and aunt had a very successful transport company and Dad still operates his own transport firm.  My brother and cousins are also well-known in the industry.  I began riding around with Dad, washing trucks in my early years and soon after, driving the trucks myself.  So I’ve been bought up in this industry and have been taught the “old school” ways. My resume includes a couple of stints in Ozzy on the road trains and many kilometres on the local New Zealand roads, in different trucks carting all sorts of products.

Amber and I share a passion for the industry so it made perfect sense for us to buy a few trucks of our own and aim to provide the best service to our customers.  I’ve always wanted to own my own truck that's now possible.

Amber Purvis

My passion for the tucking industry began as a small child living next to SH1, watching as the trucks rumbled past our gate. At the ripe old age of 14 I was able to experience driving a big rig off the public roads at sale yards and on farms.  I obtained my HT license as soon as I could and at 18 I began to drive in my spare time, finally taking on a full time job in the logging industry in my early 20s.  It's something I've gone back to time and time again, filling in gaps between a building business, council consenting and inspection officer roles, an accounting degree, building diploma and spec building.  I've been lucky enough to have driven new trucks and older trucks, all giving me the variety and experience in driving different gear. Driving jobs have included tankers, general freight, bulk, logs and heavy haul. Joe and I have been friends for 27 years and we married earlier this year - naturally trucks were included in our wedding. Our passion for the trucking industry has lead us to where we are today, with a small fleet of trucks, a goal to deliver on time and provide a totally professional service to our customers. Our customer-focussed staff are hand picked and we know they do a great job in their varied and diverse role.

Nicola - Our PA

"My family and I moved to Taupo September 2016 to be with my partner.  I was very privileged to be offered a position as PA to Amber and Joe.  Having come from a transport industry background with my dad as a truck driver, it's always been in the blood.  Fairly new to this industry I'm excited to learn and grow with the JAKS Haulage team."
